The International English Language Testing System, IELTS, is an international standardized test of English language skills for non-native speakers of English. It is jointly administered by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia, and Cambridge Assessment English and was established in 1989.

General IELTS requirements
The IELTS General Test is for those traveling to English-speaking countries to attend secondary school, take up an internship, or study. It is also a prerequisite for migration to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. The test focuses on the basic skills needed to survive in a social and working environment abroad.
The test consists of four parts:
Listening (approximately 40 minutes)
Reading (60 minutes)
Composition (60 minutes)
Speaking (about 15 minutes)
Level and assessment
Several levels. You will be given a grade from 1 to 9. You can also get half a mark, for example, 6.5. Universities often require an IELTS score of 6 or 7. They may also require a minimum score for each of the 4 parts.
The IELTS Academic test is designed for people seeking higher education or professional registration in an English-speaking environment. It reflects some of the characteristics of the academic language and assesses whether you are ready to begin your studies or vocational training.
Duration of the study: 2 years
Scoring and marking: 0 to 9 marks, 0.5 marks each.
